We're excited to announce that the National Film Centre of Latvia has granted Air Productions, in collaboration with PomPom Film from Croatia, Objektif from Slovakia and Senca Studio from Slonevia, a minority co-production grant for the family film, "Spacehead". The Latvian side will provide the music for the film, and we're thrilled to have the young and talented composer Līva Blūma onboard as the film's composer.
"Spacehead" is a heartwarming story about Alice and her autistic older brother, nicknamed Spacehead, who move to a village house to protect him from prejudice. When their parents disappear mysteriously, Alice must seek help from the children in the neighborhood to find and save them. Spacehead, who can't be left alone, joins in, and the children are confronted with his otherness, leading to a gradual change in all of them as they journey together.
Until 30 April, we are continuing the crowdfunding campaign for the short film 'Confessions of My Childhood Body,' which we are producing together with the Latvian Academy of Culture.
More information about the film and how to donate can be found here: https://igg.me/at/kermenaatzisanas.
Based on true events about grooming, the film tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who goes to a summer camp but struggles to fit in with the other campers. When one of the adult group leaders notices her and befriends her, she feels grateful for the attention. However, she soon discovers that the seemingly innocent emotional bond and expression of friendship is just a method for the group leader to satisfy his own desires.
The film is the graduation film of director Emilija Karetnikova and Santa Helena Pedele.
Our producer Antra Gaile and writer-producer Līga Gaisa recently participated in m:brane, an international platform with a focus solely on young audience projects in development. Their project in development, 'Secrets of the Great Bog', was selected for pitching at the Main Pitch. The event took place from 14 to 16 March, 2023, and provided a valuable opportunity for them to connect with industry professionals, showcase their work, and explore potential partnerships.
We are thrilled to announce that Linda Olte has joined our project, Secrets of the Great Bog, as a director. Linda is an incredibly talented filmmaker, and we are excited to have her on board.
Linda's debut film, 'Sisters', premiered at the prestigious Warsaw International Film Festival and was awarded the Competition 1-2 Award, a testament to her exceptional talent as a filmmaker. Adding to her accolades, Linda recently received the National Film Award for Best Director.
We're excited to share that Antra Gaile, our partner-producer at the studio, has co-produced a powerful feature documentary called 'Before the Light' (directed by Kristīne Briede) together with Ieva Ūbele, under the Rucka Art Fund. At last night's National Film Award ceremony, 'Before the Light' received a Special Mention from the Jury.
Through subtle, unobtrusive and visually compelling storytelling, 'Before the Light' raises thought-provoking questions and sheds light on a topic that deserves greater attention: why women in the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church can only serve under the supervision of a man.
Our producer, Antra Gaile, is currently participating in the final session of the EWA Mentoring Programme in Trieste, Italy. The Mentoring Scheme of the European Women's Audiovisual Network (EWA) is an exclusive program specifically aimed at women producers who have already made their mark at a national level and now wish to take the next step towards a wider European or international dimension.
We are pleased to announce that our producer Antra Gaile and screenwriter-producer Līga Gaisa have been selected as mentors in the Mentoring Programme of the Latvian Academy of Culture, which will take place from February to June 2023. The goal of the programme is to promote the involvement of industry representatives in the study process of the Latvian Academy of Culture and to foster cooperation between industry professionals, providing students with opportunities to develop and get to know the specificities of the industry.
